Don't fuck with Super Jesus!

This is perhaps the best demotivational poster I've ever seen on the internet.

Don't fuck with Thor!

I was reading through news articles earlier and this one just stood out by a long way.

Definately the most entertaining news item of the year so far:

Godly reckoning for home intruder

An intruder received a taste of divine reckoning as he was chased from the Edinburgh flat he was breaking into by a man dressed as the Norse god Thor.

The housebreaker leapt from the first-floor window of the building to escape Torvald Alexander who was dressed-up for a New Year's fancy dress party.

Mr Alexander, 39, said the man may have been intimidated by the costume he made of the god of thunder out of tin foil.

The intruder did not manage to take anything from the flat in Inverleith.

Powerful man

Mr Alexander said the man landed on a pitched roof outside the window which broke his fall, before making his escape.

He left behind his shoes and a pitch fork he used to break into the building.

Mr Alexander, a builder, said he was inspired to dress as Thor by the Marvel comic series.

The Norse believed that Thor rode through the heavens during thunderstorms on his chariot, which was pulled by two goats.

Lightning flashed whenever he threw his hammer Mjollnir, which magically returned to him.

He was usually depicted as a big, powerful man with eyes of lightning and a red beard

Headbanging is bad for you?

I was linked to this article this morning and if I'm honest, I'm at the point now where if the ignorance of the Daily Mail newspaper surprises me, then they have really excelled themselves.

Today they didn't go quite so far as to surprise me but they certainly hammered home another reminder of why I consider them the most vile and poisonous publication in the UK today.

They published an article today talking about how headbanging can be bad for your health and how it explains why 'metal concert-goers often seem dazed, confused and incoherent.’

I'm not one to just deny a story I don't agree with, but I will always deny the shameless comment which comes with every piece the Daily Mail publishes. The kind of comment which is disapproving and looks down on anyone who dare stray behind the acceptable standards of their readership's worldview.

Article in the Mail:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1097025/The-headbangers-highway-casualty-Experts-warn-rock-dance-cause-brain-injury.html

An interesting thing to note is that this study being reported is carried out by the BMJ.

Article in the BMJ:
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/reprint/337/dec17_2/a2825?ijkey=0103c50972ae8ac09bb19a67e2b0adcc12e117bd

Just how seriously can you take a study that chose to examine the likes of Wayne's world or Beavis and Butthead and their headbanging styles to determine which would be most dangerous? Or their suggestions that metal fans should be given headbanging 'training' before gigs or that they substitute some of their listening of Metal for easy listening such as Celine Dion to help prevent head and neck injuries?

Not to mention the fact that the Daily Mail is regarded by many health and science writers as notorious for at best sensationalising and at worst totally distorting scientific studies and evidence. (Need we remember the Sars incident?)

They once again have chosen to totally ignore the point of their source in order to suit their news agenda.

Slipknot - We'll End The World

Earlier this week I had the great pleasure of going to see Slipknot, Machine Head and Children of Bodom live at the Manchester Evening News Arena. (Yet was unable to blog about it until now due to the hectic week I've had.)

Having decided to go to the concert at relatively the last minute, the only places that were available and affordable were in seating but against my initial thought, that was no bad thing.
The seats we (Me, Jay and Kayleigh) had gave us an almost perfect view of the stage while being so close that we could actually have thrown something at one the band members and hit them.

The first band on stage were Children of Bodom who as usual delivered a crushing performance of their melodic brand of metal. Alexi 'Wildchild' Laiho especially working well into warming up an already considerable crowd and shredding through solo after solo. 7/10.

Next up were Machine Head, a band I've been eager to see for a while in order to see if their reputation and hype is deserved. It's an understatement to say that all the noise that comes with Machine Head's live show is in no way hot air. They were a very impressive live unit delivering song after song of quality heavy metal, inciting the crowd into a frenzy. Special mention also has to go to front man Rob Flynn for being one of the best front men I've seen, relaxed and at ease with the crowd. 8/10

The final act in the nights stellar line up was the famed Iwoa nine - Slipknot. There are few ways to accurately sum up Slipknot's live show while doing it justice. The way I'm going to describe it is that when Slipknot are performing to the level which they were that night, they really are a force of nature. Flying seamlessly through songs from all of their albums they dominated the audience in front of them - the biggest audience of the tour so far - with each song sonically hammering down the sea of Maggots before them.
The only critiques I have of their performance is that the set could of afforded to be longer as I left the show thirsting for more and it would of benifited with more new material and classic hits such as 'Wait and Bleed' rather than obscure older album tracks like 'Prosthetics'. Overall though, an amazing band who I'd happily see again and again. 8/10.

Dragonball: Evolution - Trailer

Following on from my previous post I wanted to talk about the trailer for the new Dragonball movie 'Dragonball: Evolution.'
Having watched the trailer my expectation for the movie has not changed from a feeling of cautious optimism.
As the trailer below reveals a lot of the story and aspects of Dragonball have been changed to be more Americanized and to appeal to western audiences more. Now of course in order for this movie to work that needed to happen to some degree but just how much is the question. From the trailer the pros and cons of tweaking aspects of the story are as follows:

Pros:
- Goku starting the story line older rather than as a child, to have him as a child would turn the film into something of a kid's kung-fu movie.
- Changing Master Roshi's character to be more serious and less cartoon-ish will obviously work well for the film.
- Playing up the importance of the Dragonballs rather than just having them as a device to make a wish makes the storyline thicker and something different than if the original story was just followed to the 'enemy wants to destroy the world' angle.

Cons:
- Goku's character has been edited far too much in order to western-ise him. He dresses too fashionably and looks like one of the cool kids from an American high school drama. (When he's not dressed in his very well adapted Combat attire).
- Bulma's character has been made to look far too dominent and female empowering. There are powerful females in the Dragonball series but Bulma is not one of them and the fact she thinks she is but is not is key to her character.
- The whole trailer has an air of Hollywood about it which as everybody knows, can ruin a potentially good film by making it appealing to an ignorant audience.

However one thing that pleased me greatly is that Piccolo looks absolutely fantastic.
Hopefully the film will be a success leading to a sequel going into the story to the point of introducing the Saiyans and Goku's past.
Should the fact that Goku is a Saiyan be ignored then I for one will not be pleased.

Dragonball: TV Special (Goku & Co Return)

A new TV special in the Dragonball series has been released in Japan to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Weekly Jump.
After watching the bulk of the special online there's a lot about it that interests me.
For a start the new style of animation used for the characters is quite good, different, yet good.
The crossing of Saga's tying different aspects of the series together is also quite good with an early Saiyan equipped with scouter and tail featuring in a special set in the post-Buu saga.
It wouldn't be a Dragonball movie without a few plot holes though of course.
For a start, one of the new characters named Tarble - the younger brother of Vegeta - is incorrectly aged since according to Vegeta he was sent to a distant star by King Vegeta due to his lack of fighting ability. The problem with this is, this would have to mean that Tarble was already born on the day of planet Vegeta's destruction, making him at least the same age as Goku yet the character is drawn to more closely resemble the age of Trunks and Goten.
Another mistake is that Vegeta is dressed in his Android-Saga attire of Saiyan battle armour yet the story is set in a saga where he had ceased from dressing in armour and started wearing more earth-like clothes.
However by large the special is a welcome return the screen for DBZ and my only hope now is that Funimation and the voice cast team get together to make an English adaption for the fanbase.

Time however, will tell on that one.

Barack Your World

This video is of a parody song by Mike Shinoda and Mark Wakefield named 'Barack Your World'. With almost limitless text being written in modern times about the new American president-elect, this video is an especially amusing and refreshing piece reguarding soon-to-be 'President Obama'.
